The ERN ReCONNET National Hub at ULS Santa Maria, Lisbon, is based within the Rheumatology Department and acts as a national reference point for rare and complex connective tissue and musculoskeletal diseases covered by the network.

As a participating centre in ERN ReCONNET, the hub contributes to improving care for patients with rare diseases and actively participates in several network activities, including the Registries and eHealth and Young Working Groups, as well as multiple disease groups. The multidisciplinary team includes rheumatologists, specialists from other medical fields and nurses with expertise in advanced diagnostics, management of complex cases and clinical research.

At the national level, the hub links Portuguese centres with ERN ReCONNET, facilitating knowledge exchange and discussion of complex cases through the CPMS. It also contributes to European registries, research initiatives, clinical recommendations and educational activities, helping to strengthen Portugal’s participation in European efforts to improve care and outcomes for patients with rare connective tissue diseases.
