ERN ReCONNET joins IgG4-Related Disease Awareness Day
Today, ERN ReCONNET proudly joins the global community in recognizing IgG4-Related Disease (IgG4-RD) Awareness Day — an important occasion to shed light on a rare and often underdiagnosed condition.
Did you know?
It can take up to 10 years for a patient to receive a correct diagnosis of IgG4-Related Disease.
IgG4-RD is a systemic fibroinflammatory disease that can affect multiple organs, including the pancreas, kidneys, salivary glands, orbits, and lungs. Its symptoms typically develop gradually and often mimic other conditions, contributing to frequent misdiagnosis and delayed treatment. Increasing awareness among both healthcare professionals and patients is essential to improving early recognition and outcomes.
As part of its mission to support patients with rare connective tissue diseases, ERN ReCONNET actively addresses IgG4-RD through a dedicated Disease Group. This group is co-led by:
- Tobias Alexander (Disease Coordinator)
- Emanuel Della Torre (Disease Coordinator)
- José Ballarín Castán (ePAG Representative)
- Alexander Patsalias (ePAG Representative)
Together with a network of clinicians and patient advocates across Europe, they are committed to closing the diagnostic gap and ensuring that every patient receives timely, appropriate care.
