Universal Health Coverage Day

 In News

Universal Health Coverage Day on December 12th is the annual rallying point for the growing movement for health for all. It marks the anniversary of the United Nations’ historic and unanimous endorsement of universal health coverage in 2012.

On Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Day 2023, global partners and communities are marking the campaign under the overall theme of “Health For All: Time for action“. WHO is calling for specific actions focused on health systems resilience and here’s why:

The world is changing in fundamental ways that have profound implications for people’s health and well-being. Building equitable and resilient health systems is even more crucial to ensure health for all. Yet, progress on UHC has stagnated since 2015 and stalled since the COVID-19 pandemic, and over half of the world’s population is not fully covered by essential health services.

On UHC Day, WHO calls on governments to urgently invest in the resilience of health systems to drive progress towards UHC and deliver health for all in a turbulent world. It’s time for action!
